Paros Adası
Birçok yabancı gezi sitesi, dergi ve gazetede yeni Mykonos olarak lanse edilen Paros , son yıllarda popülerliği hızla artan bir ada. Trip advisor’un en güzel Yunan adaları sıralamasında 5. Sırada yer alan Paros, Yunanistan’ın en bilenen ve popüler adaları olan Mykonos ve Santorini gibi Kiklad ( Cyclades ) adalar grubu içinde yer alıyor. Kiklad adaları bize yakın olan kuzey Ege ( Midilli, Sakıs vs ) ve Dodanasse ( Kos, Rodos vs ) adalarının aksine daha boz ve Türkiye’ye uzak adalar. Bunun için de Santorini ve Mykonos haricinde Türk turistler tarafından pek bilinmiyorlar.
Paros ve çevresindeki adalar benim radarıma, Mutlu Tönbekeci’nin bir yazısı ile girdi. Daha sonra bu adaları araştımaya başladım ve araştırdıkca daha çok sevdim. En nihayetinde yakın dostlarım Nilüfer ve Onur’la birlikte, 2013 yılı yaz tatilinde rotamızı buraya çevirdik. Aslında ilk hedefimiz Paros ve Milos’a gitmekti. Ama Paros’dan Milos’a hergün feribot olmaması ve yolun 6 saat sürmesi nedeni ile Milos yerine Naxos’a gittik ve Eylül’ün ilk iki haftası boyunca Paros ve Naxos’u gezdik. Açıkcası ben Temmuz ve Ağustos aylarında mümkün olduğunca tatile çıkmamaya çalışıyorum. Bu aylar, özelilkle 15 Temmuz -31 Ağustos arası , yüksek sezon olduğu için hem herşey daha pahalı hem de her yer daha kalabalık oluyor. Bu tatilde de bu kuralı değiştirmedik ve ne kadar isabetli bir karar verdiğimizi bir kez daha anladık.
Yunanistan’da Haziran ve Eylül ayları boyunca fiyatlar yüksek sezona göre çok daha uygun. Otel fiyatları nerdeyse yarı yarıya (Tabi bunda o sene krizde olmalarının da etkisi vardı. 2015’de bu farklılık yüzde 20 seviyesinde ), araba kiralama fiyatları da dörte bir oranında daha düşük. Euro bölgesinde tatil yaptığımızı düşünürsek ciddi bir avantaj söz konusu. Eylül ayında tatilin bir başka avantajı da kalabalığın ciddi oranda azalması. Merkeze yakın ve organize olmayan plajlarda bizle birlikte en fazla 5-6 kişi kişi vardı. O güzelim koylarda tek başımıza denize girmek ve bütün koyda sadece bizim olmanız tarif edilemez, muhteşem bir duygu. Bu tatilden o kadar memnun kaldık ki bir sonraki sene gene bir kiklad adası olan Milos’a gittik fakat bu başka bir yazının konusu olacak.
Ulaşımın kolaylaşmasıyla, kristal berraklığındaki muhteşem denizi, bozulmamış yapısı ve insanlarının sıcaklığı ile Paros mutlaka tatil rotalarınızda bulunması gereken bir ada. Hala ucuzken, hala bir Mykonos bir Santorini kadar popüler değilken… *

Paros Adası – Nerede Kalınır
Parikia’nın merkezinde evler çok küçük olduğundan, oteller ve pansiyonlar Parikia’nın dışına doğru sıralanmış durumda. Bizim kaldığımız yer, eski şehire yaklaşık 600m uzaklıkta olan ‘Alexandra’s room’du. 2013 yılı Eylül ayında oda başı için günlük 25 euro verdik ve çok memnun kaldık. Lüks aramıyorsanız gönül rahatlığı ile tavsiye edebilirim. Alexandra ve kocasının işlettiği bu aile pansiyonunun odaları oldukca sade ama tertemizdi. Her odanın önündeki küçük alanlara masa ve sandalye koyduklarından dışarda oturma imkanı da var. Alexandra ve kocası çok tatlı insanlar ve işlerini gerçekten severek yapıyorlar. Alexandra’s Room’un konumu da oldukça iyi. Parikia’ya 10 dakikalık yürüyüş mesafesinde. Hemen yakınında otobüs durağı ve büyük bir süpermarket var. Aynı zamanda tavernalar ve restoranlar Parikia’nın dışına doğru sıralandığından, hepsi çok kısa yürüyüş mesafesinde. Bir başka güzel özelliği de 20 metre önünde plaj olması. Plaj organize bir plaj değil ama pansiyonun denize bu kadar yakın olması çok güzel bir şey. Pansiyonun tek olumsuz yanı , ki bu Parikia’daki bütün kalınacak yerler için geçerli, araç yolunun sahille kalınacak yerlerin arasından geçmesi. Eğer araç yolu arkadan geçseymiş, bütün restoranlar ve kalınacak yerler denize sıfır olacakmış.
Paros Adası – Nerelere Gidilir
Parikia Kasabası ( Eski Kasaba )
Paros’un merkezi olan Parikia, daracık sokakları, iki katlı, bitişik nizam, pastel tonlardaki kapılara ve pencere pervazlarına sahip beyaz badanalı evleri, evlerin arasına sıkışmış çivit mavisi kubbeli küçüçük kiliseleri ile kiklad mimarisinin bütün özelliklerini taşıyan bir sahil kasabası. Eski şehirde az sayıda bar ve restoranın yaninda daha çok hediyelik eşya ve el işi ürünler satan mağazalar ve butikler mevcut . Eski şehir oldukça küçük olduğundan çok rahat geziliyor. Dura dura gezdiğinizde bile yaklaşık 30 dakikada gezebilirsiniz. Ben eski şehri hem gün batımında hem de sabah erken saatlerde iki kere gezdim. İkisinde de ayrı güzeldi. Özellikle sabah saatlerinde, etrafta kimse olmadığı için, muhteşem fotoğraflar çekebilirsiniz.
Eski şehir düz ayak başlayıp daha sonra hafifçe yükseliyor. Tepe noktasında ise denize bakan, küçük, mavi kubbeli çok güzel bir kilise var. Bu kilisenin önündeki açıklıkta, tıpkı Santorini’deki gibi insanlar güneşi batırmak için toplanıyorlar. Bu kiliseye çıkan yol boyunca, denize nazır sıralanmış bir kaç cafe-bar var. Özellikle gün batımında bir şeyler içip muhabbet etmek isteyenler için son derece uygun.
Eski şehrin bitip meydanın başladığı kısımda ve feribot iskelesini sağınıza alıp yürüdüğünüzde rıhtım boyunca birçok bar, cafe ve fasfood tarzı yemek yerleri var. Feribot iskelesini solunuza alıp yürüdüğünüzde ise Parikia’nın dışına doğru yol boyunca sıralanmış restoranlar, küçük oteller ve pansiyonlar var. Geleneksel yunan tavernalarından İtalyan restoranlarına kadar her zevke ve keseye hitap eden birçok yer bu yol üstünde.
Noussa
Bir zamanlar kendi halinde geleneksel bir balıkçı köyü olan Noussa şu anda sadece Paros’un değil Yunanistan’ın da en popüler yerlerinden biri. Merkeze 16 km uzaklıkta olan Noussa, “U” şeklinde, balıkçı kayıkları ile dolu, bir rıhtım ve bu rıhtımın arkasına doğru devam eden 3-4 sokaktan oluşan kartpostal gibi küçüçük bir köy(müş). Turizmin gelişmesiyle birlikte, günümüzde arkasındaki tepelere doğru büyümüş durumda.
“U“şeklindeki rıhtımın iki kolu ve alt kısmındaki küçük meydanlar, restoranlar ve barların attığı masalar ile dopdolu . Sol koldaki meydana, sahil tarafından inen sokakta ise sıra sıra dizilmiş cafeler ve restoranlar var. Daha arkalar ise clubların ve barların hakimiyeti altında.
Rıhtım boyunca meydanlara masalarını atmış restoranların hepsi birbirinden şık. Noussa, Parikia’ya göre çok küçük olduğu ve çok talep gördüğü için hem daha hareketli hem de biraz daha pahalı. Yüksek sezonda akşam yemeği saatlerinde rezervasyonsuz yer bulmak çok zor. Biz Noussa’yı ziyaret ettiğimizde oldukça boştu. Orada çalışanlarla sohbet ettiğimizde, yüksek sezonda akşam yemeği saatlerinde rezervasyonsuz yer bulmanın çok zor olduğunu hatta kalabalıktan dolayı rıhtım hattında yaya trafiğinin tıkandığını ve yürünemediğini söylediler. Bu yüzden, en azından yüksek sezonda, mutlaka rezervasyon yaptırıp biraz erken saatlerde gitmekte fayda var.
Lefkes
Otel sahibemiz Alaxendra’nın önerisi ile gittiğimiz Lefkes, Parikia’ya 11 km uzaklıkta olan çok güzel bir dağ köyü. Eski zamanlarda adalarda yaşayan halklar , korsanlardan korunmak için, evlerini iç kesimlerde yüksek yerlere yaparlarmış. Bu konuda Paros da bir istisna değil. Tarihi, ortaçağ ve öncesine dayanan Lefkes, adanın Parikia’dan önceki başkentiymiş. Köyün merkezine araba girmediği için, köy girişinde arabayı parkedip yola yürüyerek devam ediyoruz. Tıpkı Parikia gibi kiklad mimarisinin bütün özelliklerini taşıyan Lefkes gezmesi çok zevkli, her köşesi bir fotoğraf karesi gibi olan bir köy. Köyün girişinden aşağıya hareketli yürüyüşümüz boyunca sağlı sollu birçok küçük taverna ve kafe gördük. Yürüyüş yolunun sonunda küçük bir meydan ve 15. yüzyıldan kalma, beyaz mermerden yapılmış, Agia Triada Katedrali bizi karşıladı. Kilisenin baktığı küçük meydanda begonvil ağaçlarınin altında iki tane de çok şirin kafe-resturant mevcut.
Alyki
Alyki kasabası sonradan kurulduğu için tipik kiklad mimarisinin izlerini taşımıyor. Küçük bir koyun sol tarafına kurulmuş olan Alyki, 2-3 katlı yazlık evler ve pansiyonlardan oluşan bir köy. Sahil hattı boyunca tavernalar ve restoranlar var. Bizim en çok gözümüze çarpanlar küçük rıhtımın üzerindeki tavernalar oldu. Aynı zamanda burada denize de girilebilir. Güneydeki diğer plajlar kadar etkileyici olmasa da kumluk ve tertemiz bir denizi var.
Paros Adası – Ne yenilir Ne içilir
Ahtapot yenilir, uzo ve ev sarabı içilir 🙂 Yunan adalarının en güzel tarafı hem yemeklerin lezzetli olması hem de porsiyonların göz doyurması. Şayet Santorini, Mykonos gibi popüler kiklad adalarında değilseniz, deniz kenarındaki tavernalarda çatlayana kadar yiyip içip, en fazla adam başı 20-25 euro verip masadan kalkarsınız. Tatlı da her zaman ikram olarak gelir. Paros’da da bu kural bozulmuyor. Biz genelde 3 kişi için adam başı 15-18 euro arası hesap verdik. Porsiyonlar da büyük olduğu için çoğunlukla yemekleri ortaya söyledik. Bilenler bilir Onurla ben, konu deniz mahsulleri olunca, oldukca iştahlıyızdır ve her seferinde yemek masasından gayet tok bir şekilde kalktık. Menümüz genelde şu şekilde idi; Yunan salatası, iki ızgara ahtapot, ızgara kalamar, patates kızartması ( Anne işi ) , bir porsiyon balık ve 60 lık uzo ya da 1 litre ev şarabı.
Her hesap ödediğimizde düşündüğümüz ilk şey, Ege’nin iki yakasında fiyatların nasıl bu kadar farklı olabileceği idi. Deniz aynı deniz, ahtapot aynı ahtapot ama gel gör ki bizde deniz kenarı bir balıkçıda içki içerek vereceğimiz hesap bunun en aşağı iki katı olur. Abartısız bir şekilde burada gelen porsiyonlar da bize göre ciddi anlamda büyük. Örneğin buradaki bir porsiyon ahtapottan Türkiye’de 3 tane ahtapot salatası çıkartırlar.
Koralli
Paros’un gurme restorani: merkezin 2 km kadar dısında hemen yol kenarında şık bir restoran. Deniz manzaralı olduğu için özellikle gün batımınlarında çok keyifli oluyor. Oldukca popüler olduğu için rezervasyon şart. Menüsü ağırlıklı deniz ürünleri üstüne. Bütün kalamarın içini deniz mahsulleri ( karides, midye ve sardalya ) ile doldurdukları spesiyalleri enfes ve mutlaka denenmeli. Yalnız bu yemek oldukca büyük porsiyon olduğundan ya ortaya söylemeli ya da sadece bu yemegi alıp, ortaya salata haricinde başka bir şey söylememek lazım. Onurla ben ilk gün hevesiyle hem ortaya deniz mezeleri hem de ana yemek olarak bu spesiyali söyleyince, bu enfes spesiyalin yarısında tıkandık. Sonuna doğru ise tam anlamıyla çatlayacak duruma geldik.
Efessus
Marias’ın yerinin karşısında ağırlıklı olarak geleneksel Yunan yemekleri ve taş fırında pizza yapan bir restoran. Deniz kenarında kum üstüne attıkları masaları ile çok güzel bir ortam yaratsalar da Yunanistan’da gittiğim yerler içinde uzak ara en kötü restorantti. 3 farklı yemek söyledik ve hiçbirimiz yemeklerimizi bitiremedik. Söylediğimiz ev şarabı da çok kötüydü. Belki de o gün bizim şansımıza öyleydi ama yaşadığımız deneyimden dolayı kesinlikle tavsiye edemiyorum.
Katerina’s Taverna
Koralli’den hemen sonra gene yol üstündeki klasik bir yunan tavernası. Menüsünde ağırlıklı olarak geleneksel Yunan yemekleri ve deniz mahsulleri var. Arka fonda klasik Yunan ezgileri çalıyor. Temiz ve yemekleri lezzetli bir taverna.
Balkoni
Alyki kasabasındaki küçücük rıhtımın üzerindeki bu lokanta tek kelimeyle inanılmaz . Gün batımında gidip denize sıfır masalardan birine oturmanız şiddetle tavsiye olunur. Yemekleriyle, manzarasıyla o kadar başarılı bir yerdi ki, eğer burayi daha önceden keşfetmiş olsaydık hergün burada yerdik. Sadece Paros’da değil; gittiğim Yunan adaları içindeki en güzel yemekleri yapan taverna. Bir restoran için en zor şeyi başarmış. İlk önce müşterinin gözünü doyuran porsiyonlar, (Porsiyonlar Yunanistan için bile büyük. ) sonra da müthiş bir lezzet. Porsiyonlar ciddi anlamda büyük olduğu için azar azar söylemek en iyisi. Izgara ahtapot, ızgara kalamar ve kabak kızartması çok lezzetliydi. Tek beğenmediğimiz siparis karides kızartma oldu. Türkiye’de daha çok karidesin güvecine veya zeytinyağlı,limonlu söğüşüne alışık olduğumuzdan kızartma karides bize çok ağır geldi. Böylece bir kayık tabak karides boşa gitmiş oldu.
The pirate Bar
Eski şehrin en güzel yerlerinden birinde bulunan ‘The Pirate Bar’, Paros’un en ünlü barı. Özellikle yaptığı kokteylerinin lezzetiyle meşhur. Barın önüne ve duvar kenarına attıkları masalarda bir yandan kokteylinizi yudumlarken bir yandan da gelip geçenleri izleyebilirsiniz. Çok küçük bir bar olduğu için geç saatlere kalındığında dışarıda yer bulmak zor.
Paros Adası – Plajlar
Eğer denizi seviyorsanız, Paros sizin için bir cennet olacak. Gerek Paros’da gerek diğer kiklad adalarında ( Naxos ve Milos ) gittiğimiz koyların hepsi birbirinden güzel ve farklı idi. Bir deniz aşığı olarak bir çok yer gezdim ama bu 3 adadaki kadar güzel ve temiz denize çok az yerde rastladım. Paros’da otuza yakın koy var. Yalnızca sizin olacağınız ıssız plajlardan akşam üstü partileriyle eller havaya yapılanına kadar her zevke hitap edeni mevcut.
Paros küçük bir ada değil ve plajlar ada boyunca dağılmış durumda. Adadaki kumsalların gerçekten zevkini çıkarmak için araba kiralamak ve bir plaj şemsiyesi almak şart. Ayrıca birçok plajda bizdeki gibi ‘beach’ler yok. Olanlarda da beach kavramı bizimkinden farklı. Genelde bütün bir plajı kapatan tesislerden ziyade plaj boyunca birçok beach var. Çoğunlukla bizdeki belediye plajları gibi sadece şezlong ve şemsiye kiralıyorlar. Yakınlarında da atıştırmalık ve içeçek alabileceğiniz küçük büfeler oluyor. Yunanistan’ın en güzel yanlarından biri de plajların tamamen halka ait olması. Bir koyu tamemen kapatan ‘Faragas Beach’ gibi yerlerde bile gittiğinizde kendi şemsiyenizi istediğiniz yerde açabilirsiniz ya da bir ağaç altına havlunuzu serebilirsiniz. Kimse sizi herhangi bir ücret ödemeye ya da birşey satınalmaya zorlamıyor. Sadece yediğiniz içtiğiniz için makul bir ücret veriyorsunuz. Yok ben şezlongumda rahat rahat yatacağım derseniz de, 2 şezlong 1 şemşiye için toplam 5 euro ödüyorsunuz. Bu standart bir ücret ve hiç değişmiyor.
Ege denizi Temmuz ve Ağustos ayları boyunca güçlü meltem rüzgarlarının etkisi altında olduğundan Paros rüzgar ve kite sörfçüleri için de bir cennet. Bunun için mutlaka rüzgarın esiş yönüne göre plaj seçmek lazım. Eğer kite sörf yada rüzgar sörfü yapmayacaksınız rüzgarın olduğu yöndeki plajlar bir hayli dalgalıyken rüzgarın tersi yönündeki plajlar da gayet sakin. Paros’da yaşayacağınız deniz deneyimi rüzgarın yönüne, zayıf veya kuvvetli esmesine göre büyük değişkenlik gösterebilir. Bizim gittiğimiz dönemde rüzgar hep kuzeyden ve kuvvetli bir şekilde estiği için o yöndeki plajlarda hiç denize giremedik.
Marcello ve Krios Beach
Paros merkezine 3,5 km uzaklıkta olan bu koyun başında Krios Beach sonunda da Marcello Beach var. Merkeze yakın olması sizi yanıltmasın; burası Paros’un en güzel koylarından biri. Tamamen kumluk ve tropik adalardaki gibi muhteşem bir denize ev sahipliği yapıyor. Her yönden gelecek rüzgara karşı korunaklı olduğu için de her durumda sakin bir deniz sizi bekliyor. Aynı zamanda plaj üzerinde bir çok küçük büfe, bar ve yemek yemek için bir kaç taverna var. Ulaşım, merkezden yarım saatte bir kalkan otobüslerle veya taksiyle ( 6,7 euro gibi bir ücrete) yapılabilir.
GÜNEY PLAJLARI
Faragas Beach
Paros’da kaldığımız süre boyunca, rüzgar kuzeyden estiği için adanın güneyindeki plajları tercih etmek zorunda kaldık. İlk durağımız da otel sahibemiz Alexdra’nın önerdiği Faragas Beach oldu. Faragas Beach, koyun tamamını kapatmış bir tesis. Her türlü alkollü-alkolsüz içecek ve hamburger, makarna, salata gibi basit yemekleri servis ediyorlar. Ön tarafta şemsiyeler varken arka kısma doğru şezlonglar ağaç altında. Arka fonda kısık sesle 80’ler ve 90’ların güzel klasik pop parçaları çalıyor. Deniz muhteşem bir renge sahip; tamamen kumluk ve geç derinleşiyor. Plajin sağ ve sol tarafi kayalık yapıda olduğundan şnorkel yapması zevkli. Kesinlikle adanın en güzel ve mutlaka uğranması gereken plajlarından biri.
İsimsiz Plaj 1
Faragas plajından çıktıktan sonra tamamen şans eseri bulduğumuz bir koy. Faragas’dan çıkıp sola saptiktan sonra yol boyunca 500m kadar devam edip, tekrar sola sapınca toprak ve stabil olmayan bir yolda 200 metre giderek bu koya ulaşılıyor. Yolun sonunda en fazla 10 arabanın park edebileceği bir alan var. Adanın güney tarafında gittiğimiz koyların hepsinde deniz muhteşemdi. Ama bizim en beğendiğimiz yer burası oldu. Koy tamamen kayalık ve şemsiye dikme şansıda olmadığı için özellikle sabah veya akşam üstü gitmek için en uygun zaman. Koyun yakın çevresinde tesis de olmadığından yiyecek ve içecek işini plaja gelmeden önce halletmek lazım. Deniz tabanı tropik adalardaki gibi beyaz renkli kalın kumdan oluşuor. Bu kum hem denize o eşssiz rengini veriyor hem de suyu bulandırmıyor. Koyun sol ve sağ taraflarında ise deniz tabanı kayalık ve şnorkel meraklıları için uygun.
İsimsiz Plaj 2
Faragas Beach’den çıktıkdan sonra sağa dönüp, anayolda, tam yol bariyerlerinin başladığı noktaya kadar ilerledik. Yol bariyerlerinin başladığı yerden sağa dönüp, toprak ve stabil olmayan bir yolda 200,300 metre kadar gittikten sonra arabayı park ettik. Gene bir o kadar kötü toprak bir yoldan yürüyerek plaja ulaştık. İlk isimsiz plajın aksine buranin küçük bir kumsalı var. Ayrıca kumsal boyunca ağaçlar da mevcut. Kızgın Ege güneşi altında bir ağaç gölgesinden daha iyi birşey yoktur 🙂 Yakınlarda büfe vb olmadığı için bu plaja giderken de mutlaka tedarikli gitmek lazım. En azından su mutlaka alinmalı. Diğer koyun aksine küçük çakıl taşları ile kumdan oluşan bir deniz tabanına sahip. Deniz gene çok berrak ve temiz. Özellikle koyun sol kolu şnorkel için çok uygun. İsimsiz plaj 1’e göre daha korunaklı bir koy olduğu icin çok az rüzgar alıyor ve deniz çok sakin. Belki Eylül ayı olduğu için belki de ulaşımın zor olmasından plajda bizim haricimizde yalnizca 3 kişi daha vardı.Onlar da sadece güneşlenmeyi tercih ettiği için denize sadece üçümüz girdik. Bu çoğu yazlık yerde asla sahip olamayacağınız bir lüks ve inanılmaz bir deneyim.
Lolantanis Plajı
Adanın güney yönündeki plajlarından biri. Faragas Beach’e yaklaşık 7 km uzaklıkta. Organize bir plaj değil ama hemen yakınında bir büfe var. En azından atıştırmalıklar ve içeçek bulmak konusunda problem yaşanmıyor. Plaj hattı boyunca ağaçlar olduğu için özellikle öğlen saatlerinde tercih edilebilir. Deniz çok temiz , kumluk ve sığ. Plajın sol tarafı ve açıklar kayalık olduğundan Şnorkel için de uygun.
Chrisi Akti Plajı
Lolantanis Beach’den çıkıp sağa döndüğünüzde 4 km ilerde olan bu plaj, Paros’un su sporları merkezlerinden birisi. Oldukca büyük ve organize bir plaj. Burada da adanın güneyindeki diğer plajlar gibi tertemiz, kristal berraklığında bir deniz bizi karşıldı. Deniz oldukça geç derinleşiyor ve tamamen kumluk. Normalde rüzgarlı olan hava o gün bizim şansımıza oldukca sakindi, deniz de adeta çarşaf gibiydi. Rüzgarın olmadığı günlerde mutlaka uğranması gereken plajlardan biri.
KUZEY PLAJLARI
Manastır Koyu
Adanın kuzey tarafında Noussa’ya yakın olan manastır plajı, Paros’un en popüler plajlarından biri ve özellikle her gün yapılan akşam üstü partileriyle meşhur. Her daim kalabalık olan, su sporlarını da deneyebileceğiniz oldukca organize bir plaj. Kendine ait büyük bir park alanı var ama popülerliğinden dolayı erken saatlerde gitmek daha mantıklı. Ne yazik ki bizim adada bulunduğumuz süre boyunca rüzgar kuzeyden estiği için deniz bir hayli dalgalı ve bulanık olduğundan burada denize giremedik.
Kolymbithres Koyu
Gene Alexandra’nın tavsiyesi ile gittiğimiz bir yer. Paros’un en ünlü ve popüler plajlarından biri. Aslında tam da plaj denemez; denize uzanan kayalıklar arasında küçüçük 2 kumsaldan oluşuyor. Yer darlığından dolayı az sayıda da olsa şezlong ve şemsiyeler var. Erken saatlerden itibaren oldukca kalabalık olduğundan yer bulmak büyük sorun. Gene kalabalıktan dolayı deniz ( en azından kıyıya yakın yerler ) öğlenden itibaren bulanıyor. Biz buraya gittiğimiz zaman deniz çok dalgali, hava da rüzgarlı olduğundan denize giremedik. Rüzgar kuzeyden esmediği zaman mutlaka görülmesi gereken plajlardan biri.
Paros Adası – Nasıl Gidilir
Kiklad adaları, Samos, Midilli gibi kuzey Ege adalarının aksine Türkiye’ye uzak adalar. Dolayisiyla bu adalara ulaşım için ilk önce Atina’ya gitmek şart. Neyseki Pegasus’un Atina seferleri ile erken tarihlerde bilet alarak ucuz bir şekilde bu iş halledilebilir.
Atina’ya indikten sonra adalara iki şekilde gidebilir:
Birinci seçenek Aegean Airlines ile Olympic Airlines’ın ortaklaşa yaptığı seferlerle adaya hava yolu ile ulaşmak. Bu şekilde havalimanından hiç çıkmadan 40 dakika gibi bir sürede adaya varıyorsunuz. Bu seferler, çift pervaneli , 25 kişilik uçaklarla yapıldığı için biletler çok çabuk tükeniyor. Özellikle yüksek sezonda gidilecekse biletleri önceden almak şart. Bilet fiyatları biletin alınış tarihine göre 40 euro ile 95 euro arasında değişiyor.
İkinci seçenek ise Pire Limanından feribotla gitmek. Pire, Yunanistan’ın en büyük limanı ve Mayıs ortasından Eylül ortasına kadar her adaya gün içinde birden fazla kez feribot kalkıyor. Pire Limanı havalimanına 45 dakika uzaklıkta. Limana, alandan her 10 dakikada bir kalkan otobüs ve metro seferleri ile ulaşmak mümkün.
Ana kara ile adalar arasında hizmet veren iki ana feribot firması var : Nel Lines daha çok konvansiyel diye adlandıralan büyük ama yavaş feribotlara, Hellenic Seaways de hızlı feribotlara sahip. Konvansiyel feribotlar için bilet fiyatları 39 euro iken hızlı feribotlar için 56 euro.
Unutulmaması gereken bir başka nokta da, Yunan adaları, çoğrafi konumlarına göre gruplara ayrılıyor; 2 ayrı ada grubu arasında feribot seferleri çok nadir. Olanlarda da sadece adaların bazıları için haftanın 1 günü tek bir sefer var. Bu yüzden, gidilecek olan adaların aynı ada grubu içerisinde olması önemli. Hatta aynı grup içerisinde birbirine uzak adalar için de her gün sefer olmuyor. Biz bu açıdan çok şanslıydık. Paros ile Naxos birbirine çok yakın olduğu için hem yolculuğumuz kısa sürdü; hem de gün içinde 3-4 sefer olduğu için istediğimiz zaman gitme lüksüne sahip olduk.
The Future Mykonos: Paros
Being introduced as the new Mykonos in many foreign travel websites, journals and newspapers, Paros is an island with rapidly increasing popularity in the recent years. Paros, which is ranked as the 5th in the listing of the must-see Greek islands by Trip advisor, is located within the group of Cyclades islands including the most well-known and popular islands, such as Mykonos and Santorini. Unlike North Aegean (Lesbos, Chios, etc.) and Dodanasse (Kos, Rhodes, etc.) islands which are close to Turkey, Cyclades islands are more uncultivated and farther from here. That is why Turkish tourists are not much aware of them, excluding Santorini and Mykonos.
Paros and the surrounding islands got caught by my radar by means of an essay by Mutlu Tönbekeci. Then I began to investigate these islands and the more I researched the more I liked them. Once for all, together with my close friends Nilüfer and Onur, we headed out to these islands in the summer vacation of 2013. Actually our first aim was to visit Paros and Milos. However, due to the absence of daily ferry services from Paros to Milos and the fact that it takes 6 hours, we preferred Naxos instead of Milos and we wandered in Paros and Naxos for the first two weeks of September. As a matter of fact I try to avoid going on a holiday in July and August as much as possible. Anything would be more expensive and also it would be more crowded all around since these months, especially from July 15th to August 31st, are the peak season. We also did not depart from this rule in this holiday and we, once again, understand how a well-directed decision we have made.
The prices are much more affordable during June and September than the peak season in Greece. Hotel prices are almost in half (It was certainly affected by the crisis in that year. It is 20% in 2015), and car rental prices are a quarter lower. It is a significant advantage considering that we holidayed in the Euro area. The substantial reduction of the crowd is another advantage of holidaying in September. There were not more than 5-6 people with us in the beaches that were away from the center and unorganized. Going swimming in such beautiful bays and being alone in the entire bay is an indescribable, magnificent feeling. We were such pleased with that holiday that we visited Milos, a Cyclades island, in the next year, which will be discussed in another article.
Along with the ease of its transportation, its gorgeous sea of crystal clarity, its intact nature, and the sincerity of its people, Paros is one of the must-see islands that should be in place in your holiday route. When it is still cheap and not as popular as Mykonos or Santorini…
WHERE TO STAY
As the houses are very small in the center of Parikia, the hotels and hostels are located towards the outside of Parikia. We stayed in ‘Alexandra’s room’ which is approximately 600m away from the old town. This family hostel managed by Alexandra and her husband had pretty simple yet clean rooms. It is possible to sit outside since they put tables and chairs in the small areas in front of each room. Alexandra and her husband are very nice people and they like the job they do. The location of Alexandra’s room is also pretty fine. It is within walking distance of 10 minutes to Parikia. There is a bus station and a big supermarket in its immediate vicinity. Additionally, the taverns and restaurants are within walking distance as they are located towards the outside of Parikia. A beach located 20m in front of the hostel is another advantage. The beach is not an organized one but it is nice having such a close beach. The one and only downside, which is applicable for all the places to stay in, is that the highway is between the coast and the staying places. If the highway was in the back, all the restaurants and staying places would be seafront. We paid 25 euros daily per room in September of 2013 and we were very satisfied. I could recommend it with piece of mind if you are not seeking for luxury.
WHERE TO GO
Parikia town (Old Town)
Parikia, the center of Paros, is a beach town possessing all the characteristics of Cyclades architecture with its quite narrow streets; two-storey, attached, white houses with doors and window frames of pastel hues; and tiny churches with indigo-blue domes between the houses. Along with the limited number of bars and restaurants, there are rather boutiques and stores selling souvenirs and craftwork products in the old town. It is easy to wander in the old town as it is quite small. It may only take approximately 30 minutes even if you walk in fits and starts. I wandered in the old town both during the sunset and in the early morning hours. It was beautiful in both cases. You can take gorgeous photos particularly in the morning hours, since there is nobody around. The old town begins as flat and then steps up slightly. There is a small, beautiful church with a blue dome at the peak point. In the yard in front of this church, people get together to watch the sunset, in just the same way as Santorini. There are a few coffee shops and bars in a seafront row throughout the way to the church. It is particularly highly appropriate for those who would like to drink something and to have a chat.
There are many bars, coffee shops and fast food places throughout the dock at the point where the old town ends and the square begins and when you walk with the ferry dock on your right side. When you walk with the ferry dock on your left there are restaurants, small hotels and hostels rowed throughout the way toward the outside of Parikia. There are many places on this way, from traditional Greek taverns to Italian restaurants that would suit all pockets and tastes.
Noussa
Noussa is among the most popular places of not only Paros but also Greece, which was once upon a time a placid traditional fishing village. Noussa is (was) a tiny village resembling a postcard, consisting of a U-shaped dock full of fishing boats and 3-4 streets going ahead behind this dock. Nowadays, it has extended toward the hills at the back upon the development of tourism.
Both arms of the U-shaped dock and the small squares underneath are packed with tables placed by the restaurants and bars. In the street descending from the coast to the square on the left arm, there are coffee shops and restaurants arranged in rows. The back side is dominated by the clubs and bars.
Each of the restaurants with tables placed in the spaces along the dock are more chic than each other. Noussa is both more live and slightly more expensive as it is smaller and more demanded than Parikia. It is hard to find a place to eat without booking at dinner times during high season. It was pretty empty when we visited Noussa. When we chatted with the personnel they told us that there would be a pedestrian traffic jam that disables walking along the dock line due to the crowd during high season. Therefore, it is definitely necessary to make reservations and going at a bit earlier hours.
Lefkes
Lefkes, which we visited upon the recommendation of our hostel keeper Alexandra, is a very nice mountain village 11 km away from Parikia. In old times, people living in the islands used to build their houses on the upcountry hills for protection from pirates. Paros is not an exception in this respect. Lefkes with a history going back to middle ages and before was the capital of the island before Parikia. It is still possible to see some parts of the old Byzantium path passing through the village. As there is no car passage into the village center, we park our cars and at the village entry and go on walking the path. Lefkes is an enjoyable village having all the characteristics of Cyclades architecture, just like Parikia, with each corner resembling a photo frame. We saw many taverns and coffee shops on both sides through the way from the village entry downwards. At the end of the walking path, a small square and Agia Triada Cathedral made up of white marble from the 15th century welcomed us. There are 2-3 very cute coffee shops/restaurants under the bougainvillea trees in the yard facing the church.
Alyki
Alyki town does not bear the traces of typical Cyclades architecture as it was established afterwards. Being established on the left side of a small bay, Alyki is a small village consisting of 3-storey summer houses and hostels. There are taverns and restaurants lying along the shore line. Two taverns located on the small dock caught our eyes at the most. It is also possible to go swimming here. Although it is not as fantastic as the other southern beaches, the sea here is sandy and very clean.
FOOD & BEVERAGES
Eat octopus; drink Ouzo and home-made wine J The best part of Greek islands is that both the foods are delicious and the portions are satisfying. Unless you are in the popular Cyclades islands such as Santorini and Mykonos, you will pay not more than 20-25 euros per capita for plenty of food and drinks in the taverns by the sea. Dessert is always serviced as a treat. This rule is also not ignored in Paros. We generally paid 15-18 euros per capita for 3 of us. We mostly ordered the food jointly as the portions are big. Everyone knows that Onur and I are quite desirous as far as sea foods are concerned. We were quite full when we left the tables at every turn. Our menu generally involved Greek salad, double grilled octopus, grilled squids, double fries (mom-made), one portion of fish, and a 40cc Ouzo or 1 liter home-made wine.
Every time we paid the bills, the first thing that came to our minds was that how the prices could be such different from each other on two Aegean shores. The same sea, the same octopus; however, we would pay at least two-fold of this bill in our country for a meal including the drinks in a seaside fish restaurant. The portions served here are literally significantly greater than those in our country. For instance, it is possible to prepare 3 salads with octopus in Turkey using one portion of octopus here.
Koralli
The gourmet restaurant of Paros: a fancy restaurant by the wayside approximately 2 km beyond the center. It is particularly enjoyable during the sunsets owing to its sea view. It is essential to make reservations since the restaurant is highly popular. The menu is mainly focused on seafood. Their specialty of squid stuffed with seafood (shrimps, mussels and sardines) is delightful and should definitely be tasted. However, as this meal comes in a large portion, it should be ordered jointly or it would be appropriate to order this meal alone and not to order anything other than salad jointly. Onur and I ordered seafood appetizers jointly and this specialty as the main course, so we were full before we ate the half portion of this delightful specialty. Towards the end, we were literally about to explode. J
Efessus
A restaurant mainly serving traditional Greek food and pizza cooked in stone oven located across the Marias’. Although they have created a nice ambient with the tables they have placed on the sand by the sea, it was the far and away the worst restaurant I have been to in Greece. We ordered 3 different meals and none of us could be able to finish them. The home-made wine we ordered was also very bad. Maybe it was our bad luck that day but I definitely cannot recommend it to you due to our experience.
Katerina’s Tavern
A classical Greek tavern on the drive just after Koralli. The menu mainly consists of traditional Greek food and seafood. Classical Greek tunes come along in the background. A clean tavern with delicious foods.
Balkoni
This restaurant located on the tiny dock in Aliki town is just incredible. It is strongly recommended to choose one of the seafront tables during sunset. It is such a great place with the foods and landscape that we would have eaten there every day if we had discovered it previously. It is the tavern with the greatest foods not only in Paros but also all across the Greek islands I have been to. Balkoni has succeeded the most difficult thing for a restaurant. First of all the satisfying portions (The portions are big even for Greece.) and then a great taste. It is best to order in small amounts since the portions are substantially big. Grilled octopus, grilled squid and fried zucchini were very delicious. The only order we did not like was fried shrimps. The fried shrimp was highly rich for us as we are used to eat shrimp stew or boiled shrimp with olive oil and lemon in Turkey. A platter of shrimps was wasted.
The Pirate Bar
‘The Pirate Bar’, located in one of the most beautiful places of the old town, is the most famous bar of Paros. It is particularly renowned for its cocktails. It is possible for you to sip your cocktail and to watch pass-byers at the same time sitting at the tables they have placed in front of the bar and near the wall. It is hard to find available seats in the late night hours as it is a very small bar.
THE COASTS
If you like the sea, Paros will be heaven for you. All the bays we have been to in either Paros or the other Cyclades islands (Naxos and Milos) were more beautiful than, and different from, each other. As a sea lover, I have visited many places but I have rarely seen as such beautiful and clean sea as the one in these 3 islands. There are approximately 30 bays in Paros. The list ranges from the isolated beaches with nobody apart from you to those with late afternoon parties where people dance.
Paros is not a small island and the beaches are scattered throughout the island. One should get a beach umbrella and rent a car to enjoy the bays on the island since there is no public transportation available from the center particularly to the beaches in the south of the island. Additionally many coasts do not have ‘beaches’ as ours. Their ‘beach’ concept is different than that of us. Generally there are multiple beaches throughout the coast rather than facilities occupying a whole coast. They usually only rent beach chairs and umbrellas like the municipal beaches in our country. There are close small convenience stores where you can buy snacks and refreshments. One of the loveliest aspects of Greece is that the beaches are entirely belonged to the public. You can place your beach umbrella anywhere you like or lay your beach towel under a tree even in places occupying a bay, such as the ‘Faragas Beach’. Nobody will force you to pay a fee or buy something. You will only pay an affordable price for the food & beverage. If you decide to lie in your beach chair you will pay 5 euros for 2 beach chairs and 1 beach umbrella. This is a standard price which never changes.
As the Aegean Sea is affected by strong breezes during July and August, Paros is heaven for the wind- and kite surfers. It is essential to choose a beach according to the blowing direction of the wind. If you don’t think of kite or wind surfing, the beaches in the doldrums are rather quite, whereas the windward ones are considerably rolling. Your sea experience in Paros may substantially change as per the direction of blowing, poor or hard blowing of the wind.
For instance, we could not go swimming on the beaches in the north as the wind always blew from the north in the period we were there.
Marcello and Krios Beaches
This bay located 3.5 m away from the center of Paros and has Krios Beach at the head and Marcello Beach at the end of it. Don’t be mistaken by that it is close the center; it is one of the most beautiful bays of Paros. It hosts a completely sandy sea that is magnificent just like the tropical islands. A tranquil sea is waiting for you in any case since it is protected against the winds from any directions. At the same time, there are many small convenience stores, bars and a few taverns for food on the beach. Transportation is available through the buses taking off half-hourly or by taxis (6-7 euros).
SOUTHERN BEACHES
Faragas Beach
We had to prefer the beaches in the south of the island as the wind always blew from the north throughout the period we stayed in Paros. Our first stop was Faragas Beach which was recommended by Alexandra, the owner of the hostel we stayed in. Being 15 km away from Parikia, Faragas Beach is a facility occupying the entire bay. All kinds of soft and alcoholic drinks and simple meals including burgers, pastas and salads are served here. The beach umbrellas are located in the front, whereas the beach chairs are under the trees towards the back. 80’s and 90’s classical pop songs are played at low volume in the background. The sea is of a splendid color and it is completely sandy and deepens late. Diving with snorkel is enjoyable because the right and left sides of the beach are rocky. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful and must-see beaches of the island.
Nameless Beach 1
A bay which we definitely found by chance after we left Faragas beach. When we left Faragas and turned left we went 500m through the main road, turned left again and reached this beach after going 200 meters on an unstable earth road. There was a parking area of maximum 10 cars at the end of the road. The sea was gorgeous in all the bays we have been to in the south of the island. But we liked this place most. The beach is not an organized one and it is not possible to stand a parasol as it is entirely rocky. You should therefore go there before noon or towards evening. You should resolve the food-drink thing before you arrive at the beach as there is no facility in the immediate vicinity. The sea base is composed of white and thick sand just like the tropical islands. The sand gives the sea that unique color and does not muddy the water. The sea base is rocky on the left and right sides of the bay, and therefore suitable for snorkel enthusiasts.
Nameless Beach 2
When we left the Faragas Beach we turned right and went up to the point where the roadblocks began on the main road. When we turned right at the point where the roadblocks began, we went 200-300 meters on an unstable earth road and parked the car. We reached the beach after walking on a bad earth road. Unlike the first nameless beach, this one has a small sandbank. There are also trees throughout the beach. There is nothing better than the shadow of a tree under the hot Aegean sunJ . You should be prepared before going there because there are no close convenience stores, etc. At least you should take water with you. Unlike the other bay, the sea base is composed of small pebbles and sand. Again the sea is clear and clean. Particularly the left arm of the bay is suitable for snorkel diving. Because it is much more sheltered as compared with the nameless beach 1, it is barely exposed to the wind and the sea is tranquil. There were only 3 more people other than us on the beach probably because of the fact that it was September or due to the transportation challenges. This is a luxurious and incredible thing you can never experience in many summer places.
Lolantanis Beach
One of the beaches in the south of the island. It is approximately 7 km away from Faragas Beach. It is not an organized beach but there is a convenience store its immediate vicinity. At least you don’t have any problems in finding snacks and drinks. It can be preferred particularly during noon hours as there are trees through the beach line. The sea is very clean, sandy and shallow. The left side of the beach and the open sea are suitable for snorkel diving as they are rocky.
Chrisi Akti Beach
Being among the water sports centers of Paros, this beach is 4 km away when you leave the Lolantanis Beach and turn right. It is a quite big and organized beach. We came across a very clean sea of crystal clarity just like the other islands in the south of the island. The sea deepens quite late and is entirely sandy. The weather is normally windy, however we were lucky that it was calm and the sea was also tranquil that day.
NORTHERN BEACHES
The monastery bay
The monastery bay, which is close to Noussa in the north of the island, is one of the most popular beaches of Paros and is renowned for the late afternoon parties they arrange every day. It is a highly organized beach which is always crowded and where you can try water sports. It has a big parking area but it is more reasonable to go there in the early hours due to its popularity. Unfortunately, as the sea was rolling and murky since the wind blew from the north during the period we stayed in the island, we could not go swimming here.
Kolymbithres bay
It is one of the most famous and popular beaches in Paros that we visited upon Alexandra’s advice. Actually it is not exactly a beach; it consists of 2 tiny sandbanks between the rocks extending to the sea. There are a limited number of beach chairs and umbrellas due to space restriction. It is a big problem to find available seats as it is highly crowded as of the early hours. The sea gets murky as of noon, again because of the crowd (at least the places close to the coast). The sea was rolling and the weather was windy, so we could not go swimming here. However, it is a must-see beach when the wind does not blow from the north.
HOW TO GO
Unlike North Aegean islands, including Samos and Lesbos, Cyclades islands are far from Turkey. Therefore, you must go to Athens in order to arrive at these islands. Fortunately, it is possible to solve this on the cheap by buying tickets early for Athens flights from Pegasus.
After landing in Athens, you can go to the islands using two ways:
The first option is to reach the island by air using the common flights of Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airlines. You can arrive at the island in a short time as 40 minutes without leaving the airport. These flights are performed in twin propeller planes with a capacity of 25 people, thus the tickets are sold out quickly. Particularly it is essential to buy the tickets in advance in case of traveling during high season. Ticket prices range from 40 euros to 95 euros depending on the date of purchase of the ticket.
The second option using the ferry services from the Pire Port. Pire is the greatest port of Greece and has several daily ferry services to the island from the middle of May up to the middle of September. Pire Port is 45 km away from the airport. It is possible to reach the Pire Port from the airport using the buses taking off every 10 minutes or using the subway.
The ferry is divided into two types: One of them is large yet slow ferries called conventional, and the other one is those similar to the fast ferries operating between Yenikapı and Bandırma. Ticket price is 39 euros for the conventional ferries and 56 euros for the fast ferries. The trip takes approximately 3.5 hours by the fast ferries, whereas it may increase up to 6 hours using the conventional ferries.
